RML Group - Short Wheelbase Price: from £1,300.000 plus taxes

Last Updated On: 24/03/2023

Inspired by the look of 60s sports/racing cars, and in particular the iconic Ferrari 250 SWB, the RML Short Wheelbase is a handbuilt, limited production run homage to that era and car.

Under the beautifully-formed carbon fibre body, and in particular the bonnet, is a totally rebuilt the 479bhp 5.5-litre V12 from the Ferrari 550. Power output is 479bhp at 7000rpm, with a torque figure of 419lb ft at 5000rpm. This should give the Short Wheelbase a 0-60mph (97km/h) time of 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 180mph (290km/h). Both figures are estimated.

This model also provides the steel backbone chassis, suspension and brakes RML's car, with the 550’s double wishbone suspension being retained, but RML adds its own anti-roll bars, springs and multi-way Ohlins adjustable dampers. There is traction control but no ESP.

The bespoke four-exit exhaust gives the unit its highly distinctive and evocative sound, so redolent of the 12 cylinder naturally aspirated powerplant. This glorious engine drives the rear wheels through a six-speed manual, open-gated transmission.

With ample leg and headroom even for 2 metre tall occupants, the fabulous interior features a high level of comfort and discreet modernity. Customers will discover a hidden Satnav system which deploys on demand, brilliantly effective air-conditioning and a superb hifi. Likewise there’s the simple convenience of cupholders and sophistication of smartphone connectivity, including Apple CarPlay.

The product of a meticulous approach to design, engineering and manufacturing, it draws upon RML’s unrivalled skillset as the one-stop solution for race winners, cutting edge supercars and obsessively crafted Continuations. A limited production run of just thirty cars is planned.
